Soft strokes — Little Play Square
What's on the screen
The whole screen is split into 3 bands: fluffy fur, water and sand. On a tall screen they run top to bottom in that order, and on a wide screen left to right. There are no buttons to press and nothing to aim at.
How to play
Touch or stroke anywhere on the screen and the material under the finger answers. The fur leans the way it is stroked, parts to the left and right when tapped, and springs back a moment after the finger lifts. On the water, ripples spread out from under the finger and fade. In the sand, the finger's path stays as a groove and slowly fills in until it is gone. Each material has its own sound. Stroke across the bands and each band the finger passes answers in turn. Several fingers touching at once all get an answer. Nothing is counted, and there is no score and no ending.
This game sits in Games for ages 0 and 1. The age is only a guide, so children older than that and children younger than that are just as welcome to play it.
What this game doesn't have
- Time limits and scoresThere is no countdown, no score and no run of days in a row.
- Game overThere is no state that stops a child from going on. You can stop the moment interest runs out.
- Ads and purchasesNothing can be pressed by mistake that carries a child off to another site.
- Text fieldsNo name and no email address is ever asked for. There is no sign-up either.
How to start
Just open Little Play Square and pick the Soft strokes picture on the home screen. Once it has finished loading, it starts up the same way in places with no signal. Sound is switched with the speaker mark on the home screen (it steps through normal, off and quiet, so the first press turns it off).
More from Games for ages 0 and 1
- Animal sounds — Touch an animal picture and its voice and its movement come back. Every voice is a synthesized sound.
- Piano — Press one of the big keys and that note sounds. There is no tune and no order to press in.
- Drum — A cymbal, a wood block, maracas and a drum can be struck one by one. The sound of the spot you hit comes straight back.
