Picture book — Little Play Square
What's on the screen
The pages of a picture book sit side by side, with the edges of the pages before and after peeking out on the left and right. Each page has one thing that moves when touched, and an egg, a chick and its mother appear. No words, speech bubbles or numbers appear.
How to play
Swipe a page sideways, or tap the left or right edge, to turn it. The pages go on: an egg wobbling in its nest, the shell cracking and a chick coming out, the chick walking along a path, and the chick running to meet its mother. After the last page comes the first again. Touching the thing on a page makes it wobble, hop or walk, with a sound. Tapping an empty part of the page makes the thing bounce to show where to touch. There is no score, nothing to finish and no celebration, and nothing is saved.
This game sits in Games for 2-year-olds. The age is only a guide, so children older than that and children younger than that are just as welcome to play it.
What this game doesn't have
- Time limits and scoresThere is no countdown, no score and no run of days in a row.
- Game overThere is no state that stops a child from going on. You can stop the moment interest runs out.
- Ads and purchasesNothing can be pressed by mistake that carries a child off to another site.
- Text fieldsNo name and no email address is ever asked for. There is no sign-up either.
How to start
Just open Little Play Square and pick the Picture book picture on the home screen. Once it has finished loading, it starts up the same way in places with no signal. Sound is switched with the speaker mark on the home screen (it steps through normal, off and quiet, so the first press turns it off).
More from Games for 2-year-olds
- Ensemble — Tap one of the 3 animals on the stage and it plays a short tune once, then stops. Tap another while it is playing and its part joins in from the next beat, so the sounds stack up into a little band. Every mix fits, and there is no score and no celebration at the end.
- Bouncy ball — Tap anywhere on the screen and the ball answers with a ring and a sound. Tap just as it lands on the floor and it bounces higher than usual, with a big ring. A tap at another moment still brings a small ring and a sound, and there is no score and no speeding up.
- Touch colors — Pick the color that matches the example. Pressing another color brings no scolding sound and no cross mark.
